Junior Band
|
On May 8 I travelled to Walsall to witness the 1999 Church Brigade band contest,18 bands from all parts of the country converged on Allumwell school to participate in this prestigious event. I am pleased to announce that St Peters Whetstone succeeded particularly well, with the junior band achieving the runner up trophy in 3 categories and the senior band practically sweeping the board with 15 trophies. This ultimate triumph came about not through luck, not through lack of opposition (the standard was very high) but by sheer hard work, commitment and dedication by all involved. The weeks and days leading up to this event are spent not only rehearsing the music but also on the marching, the ironing of uniforms, the polishing of shoes, sowing on of buttons and trying to allow for every possible situation from lost hair grips to stage fright. You may come across somebody expressing negative views about the young, they are work shy or irresponsible or even good for nothing, if so, point them in the direction of St Peters Church Lads & Church Girls Brigade. They truly deserve the title Supreme Champions. Neil Pegg |
